GCJGF – Springbreak Golf Tournament March 8, 2015

Hello Everyone!!  It has been a long off-season, and now we are officially back and going into the 2015 Season!!  Gia and I had a great day together, walking the fairways of the Country Club of Miami – East Course.  It was a little overcast, but, perfect golf weather 🙂

Gia put the clubs down for 5 weeks in the off-season, because I was helping my Mom with health issues and organizing appointments and hospitalizations.  Now, we can focus on golf!! One thing I like to look at with Gia, are her stats after the tournament to see where her game is weak.  That is why golf tournaments are great to see how you perform under pressure.

Driving – Gia was 100% on Fairways hit for this event.  Perfect off the tee!!  She is averaging about 150-160 yards with the Long Stick, and that was definitely the strongest part of her game for this event.

Approach – I did not do a good job here.. I gotta take the blame… I did not put the right clubs in her hand to reach the flags.  Gia’s approach shots were short too much, only hit 2/9 greens :/…. I take the blame because I am supposed to know her yardages, and calculate for her, and I didn’t do a very good job at that.  And I’m going to change that around ASAP!!

Putting – I think this is where I have seen the MOST improvement in Gia’s game.  She has definitely improved in her LAG putting.  I have her focusing on finishing her stroke towards her target, on long putts… the longer finish is doing the trick.

Chipping – The time off showed here, in the shortgame… definitely weakness reared it’s ugly head here.  And, we are going to focus on 45 yards and in over the next few weeks until the next event.

Thanks for keeping up with BoomBoom and her golf journey!!  We have just under 5 months until the World Championships at #Pinehurst!!

GCJGF – 2014 Holiday Classic

Gia pulled into the Country Club of Miami with a great attitude.  Playing in the 7-9 age division, Gia is the youngest in the category.  Rounding out her first full year playing in Golf Tournaments, Gia came home winning 3rd place in the 2014 GCJGF Holiday Classic.  The points for this event count towards the 2015 Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation Player of the Year Award.  After playing in 3 out of 5 events in the 2015 season, Gia is in overall 3rd place for Player of the Year Honors.

U.S. Kids Golf Tour – Miami Local Tour (Country Club of Miami – October 26, 2014)

So 24 hours was not enough time to help BoomBoom with her putting technique.  But not all was lost, she was -1 on 5 holes and +10 on 4 holes today, and recorded a 45 for today’s event.  Let me start off with the “Good”, she drove the ball excellently and actually hit another Par 4 in 1 shot, off the tee 140 yards.  Gia had 2 birdies today, on a Par 3 from 55 yards, she hit a full Sand Wedge and left it 2 feet from the cup.  After watching her miss from about 8 inches yesterday, I was hoping she would make it and she did!!  She also birdied the Par 4 that I mentioned that she drove the green in 1 shot.  She hit into 3 greenside bunkers today, and got out each time on her first try, another feather for her cap.  Gia came in 2nd Place today, her best finish so far in a U.S. Kids Local tour event to date.  As her caddy the hardest thing for me to decide is when to let her go for the green.  She hits the ball on target so much, that when she misses she leaks a little to the right, a slight fade… which I prefer but, because she is a long hitter for her age, she reaches the greenside bunkers on her drive, or the Par 5’s in two shots.  So that being said, how do you contain “Mommy Caddy” from being greedy and wanting to see these superior shots?  AHHHHH, I guess I will learn more about this as we keep going:)

Now for the “Not so Good” putting was Gia’s nemesis today, but, mostly because these greens had far more slope than the ones from yesterday.  So once her ball was above the hole, it was difficult to get the ball to stop next to the hole for an easy tap in, when she missed.  In the end, Gia recorded 27 putts over the 9 holes.  But not all is lost, she did have a 1 putt, and she did have 3-2putts.  Her next event will be on November 16, 2014, so we will have 3 weeks to work on her putting… can’t wait to see how it goes!!  Remember to leave Gia a comment and Thank you for your support from Gia and all of our family to yours – God Bless!!

U.S. Kids Golf – Miami Local Tour (Country Club of Coral Springs – October 25, 2014)

What an amazing day today was for BoomBoom and myself!  The ball striking display that Gia put on today impressed me, and I am not saying that because I am her Mom…. believe me, those that know me know… I do not brag… but, I have to give credit where credit is due and Gia put on a show today on the course.  She hit 8 greens in Regulation, 2 of those Par 5’s she reached in 2, and 1 was a Par 4 where she drove the green.  We had 1 week to work on several things that I listed on the last post… but the Best Part about today was that I got the correct clubs in her hand and she pulled off the shot.  With all that being said Gia shot a 42, and finished 5th in her EXTREMELY talented 7& Under Age Division.

So where did the additional strokes come in?  Gia’s putting got away from her today.  Well we checked off so many things off the list, but, she is only 7 so we gotta put in some work before tomorrow to get her putting on track.  7-3putts and an up&down miss from about 8 inches… yes I know heartbreaking.  Lol – Not Really, to be honest I was soooooo EXCITED watching her play, and NOW I KNOW FINALLY how my Dad felt all those years ago when he would get so excited about my play.  I always thought he was funny about that, but, after today I realized how EXCITING it is to see your child pull off shots that YOU as their Parent really did not expect.  Yes we practice to do it, but I mean she’s 7… it’s not something I expect right now.

Gia showed me how bad she wants this game, but, experience is what makes the player GREAT at a young age.  Gia needs more putting experience and I am going to give her some more games to play to help her tackle the “Art” of Putting.  Let’s see how it goes tomorrow!!  BTW leave Gia a comment, she would love to hear from all of you!! God Bless!!
